Why did we decide to do this?
The idea to scan albums grew out of our desire to preserve our own family’s memories. We realized that if our house and its contents were destroyed, all of Elisabeth’s work would be lost. We would still have the negatives of the pictures but would lose the stories and commentary captured in the albums. So much work goes into one album that the thought of recreating it is beyond comprehension. Bill lost many childhood memories in an apartment fire in 1989. A crosstitch that Elisabeth created for Bill was also destroyed in that fire. Although the pattern existed, she never had the heart to do all the work again. From this experience, we learned the value of preparing for those things beyond our control. (Bill surprised Elisabeth four years later by recreating the crosstitch – a work of love!)
